Demi Moore’s bod April 10, 2007

Roger Ebert, in his review of G.I. Jane, commented on Demi Moore’s willingness to “work with the image of her body.” From tomboy to pregnant and from natural to enhanced, Demi Moore has undergone tremendous transformations in terms of her body–it’s absolutely unreal how one person’s body can change so drastically. Has she succeeded as an actress because of these transformations?

I definitely think that some actors and actresses benefit a lot from being able to transform easily, especially in terms of weight. Christian Bale comes to mind; he was deathly skinny when he filmed for The Machinist, and then had to gain more weight and muscle than normal to film Batman Begins. However, I think this ability to transform is only beneficial depening on what kind of an actor a person is–an “actor” actor, or a star.

As for Demi, I’m not sure what she is. It’s probably a generational thing, b/c I don’t know how famous she was when G.I. Jane came out, but my impression is that her public image doesn’t matter as much as her acting ability… Someone like Angelina Jolie, on the other hand–it doesn’t matter what she transforms into, what matters is that she’s Angelina Jolie! I hope this makes sense…

There is definitely a lot of interesting stuff going on w/ ‘transformations’ though, seeing as how tabloids are obsessed with female celebrities and their weight (e.g. Renee Zellweger) and if they’re pregnant or if they’ve lost their baby weight yet.
